I got the AMD 4-in-1 coupon which includes a free copy of the Steam version of Sleeping Dogs. I just played some sessions last night after the latest updates, but I have a few questions.
Steam has at least a few times now wanted to 'complete installation' after the game files and updates download and it's status in the library says 'ready to play'. So I have to switch back from offline mode to online mode, let it complete the install, then exit out of game and go back to offline mode.
The game has been playing ultra smoothly since all the updates were installed. Initially it was fairly choppy before that. It froze several times though and I had to bring up Task Manager to end the process. A couple of times I saw either a program not responding or HKShip.exe has stopped working error.
I tried disabling my AV and FW as some suggest, didn't help. I tried disabling my GPU OC, didn't help. Then I tried putting the exe of the game in admin and W7 compat modes as some have suggested for the HKShip error. I ended with a fairly long session after doing that, and so far no freezes.
So my questions are:
1. Has anyone else had a Steam game say it needs to complete installation after it's status says ready to play when you go to launch it, then do it again after letting it complete? I don't recall any of my other Steam games doing that.
2. Has anyone here had the crash problems with Sleeping Dogs, and if so did admin and W7 compat modes fix it?
I did btw 'verify the integrity of the game files' in the game's properties, and it checked out OK. I hope I'm good now, because I've never seen the game play this smoothly.
